Dear Mikkel,
Thank you very much for your letter and your question. I am sorry to hear about your skin condition – I know personally how frustrating acne is!
I want to start by pointing out that you cannot use other people’s opinion about your skin for anything. For some, 3 blemishes are a lot and for some it means nothing. It is individual how people will react mentally.
And then, I will support your own conclusion. Increased focus on the skin condition acne will often lead to an over-use of skincare products and treatments, which will only provoke more blemishes. Simple and consistent routines are the way to go.
It is great that you use mild products for treating your skin and it is important to exfoliate/peel every day, either with AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) or BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acid). For example, try Perfect Skin Power Treat, which is based on a BHA (2% salicylic acid).
You write that you use a scrub, which I would recommend you not to use. The grains in the scrub will provoke your skin and create irritation, which will cause more blemishes to appear – instead use the Perfect Skin Power Treat mentioned above – it is far better to treat your skin on a daily basis than once a week.
I am really happy that you can use my advice from the web site and that you seem to be healthy – both with your diet and being physically active.
That you experience breakouts on one side of your face and not the other can be because of your cell phone that you probably use on one ear alone. Make sure that your cell phone is cleaned so it will not have any bacteria on the surface. Following my mentioning cleaning your phone, I will say this about your healthy life style with a lot of sport: Remember, remember, REMEMBER to cleanse your face after training – it is super healthy to sweat and so opening up your pores, but afterwards sweat becomes dirt that will clog your pores if it is not washed away.
Regarding extra supplements, I would not recommend you to take any. I am sure the ones you suggest and already take are some healthy choices, but you have to be careful that they do not replace a healthy meal.
In conclusion, I would like to point out that you should never let your acne affect mentally. You do so many good things already with your skincare, diet and all-round healthy lifestyle and you cannot do anything more. As much as I would love to snap my fingers and give you amazing skin within one second, it is unfortunately not possible. But keep it up with the healthy lifestyle and the mild skincare and I am sure that you will have great results.
I wish you all the best in the future!
